For use in piping systems to be used for gas/water lines to make the joints leak proof. Teflon tapes are to be applied on the male threads and the pipe joint compound on the female threads, together this combination ensures a leak proof joint.
The 1/2-inch-wide tape is the best choice for most piping, while 3/4-inch tape is better for 3 and 4-inch piping.
½ inch tape for normal application
¾ inch tape for pipes 3 inches to 4 inches in size
Pull tape off the roll and place the its end on the male pipe thread.
Wrap 3-5 layers of tape tightly in a clockwise direction around the thread. Cut the end with scissors.
Apply a thin coat of pipe-joint compound to the female threads in the fitting and screw the pipe into the fitting.
